Desiccant drying prior to hermetic storage extends viability and reduces bruchid (Callosobruchus chinensis L.) infestation of mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) seeds

چکیده

Seeds of mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) are subject to loss viability due aging and damage from pulse beetles (or bruchids; Callosobruchus spp.) infestation during storage. We investigated whether seed drying using desiccants hermetic packaging would prevent or ameliorate these consequences Sun-dried seeds at a moisture content 10% were subjected further for 72 h five different desiccants: Drying Beads® (a zeolite-based desiccant), silica gel, sodium aluminum silicate, activated alumina, cow-dung ash traditional desiccant). subsequently stored in plastic containers the presence under ambient conditions along with sun-dried cloth bags containers. In addition, parallel samples each treatment inoculated one pair bruchid (C. chinensis L.) same conditions. The treatments did not affect initial quality (germination percentage seedling vigor) significantly. After storage 9 months temperatures, dried Beads, silicate alumina had higher germination percentages, vigor indices soil emergence, lower electrical conductivity (leakage upon imbibition) fungal compared other bruchids effective less damage, oviposition, insect respiratory activity maintained after six controls. results demonstrate superior ability quickly safely dry prior benefits such preventing deterioration

Low Temperature-Induced Cytoplasmic Acidosis in Cultured Mung Bean (Vigna radiata [L.] Wilczek) Cells.

Cold-induced changes in vivo in the cytoplasmic pH of suspension-cultured cells of mung bean (Vigna radiata [L.] Wilczek) were investigated by fluorescence-ratio imaging cryomicroscopy with special reference to the variations in the chilling sensitivity of cells during the growth cycle. Because of the preferential localization of the fluorophore in the cytoplasm under specified conditions and t...

Mechanism of Resistance in Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek var. radiata] to bruchids, Callosobruchus spp. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)

Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek var. radiata] is an important pulse crop in Asia, and is consumed as dry seeds and as bean sprouts. It is an excellent source of digestible protein. Bruchids [Callosobruchus chinensis (L.) and Callosobruchus maculatus (F.)] are the important pests of mungbean and cause damage in the field and in storage. Bruchid infestation reduces the nutritional and mar...

Mung Bean (Vigna radiata) Seedlings'

Two forms of Fd-NADP+ oxidoreductase (FNR) isoproteins have been purified and characterized from the first foliage leaves of 5d-old mung bean (Vigna radiata). They could be separated by either Mono Q HR 515 or ferredoxin (Fd)-Sepharose 48 affinity columns. Based on immunoblot analysis and N-terminal amino acid sequences, one form resembles the FNR purified from photosynthetic tissues of higher ...

Arsenic-induced oxidative stress and its reversal by thiourea in mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek.) genotype

A pot culture experiment was conducted in mung bean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek.) genotype PUSA Baisakhi to test the effect of sodium arsenate and thiourea (TU). Arsenic at 25 μM caused significant inhibition of growth as indicated by reduced shoot and root dry weight and reduction in photosynthetic capacity. Significant decline in ascorbate peroxidase, dehydroascorbate reductase and glutathion...

Changes of antioxidant enzymes of mung bean [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek] in response to host and non-host bacterial pathogens

The natural resistance against the majority of potential pathogens that exist in most plant species is known as non-host resistance. Several reports suggest the role of antioxidant enzymes in non-host resistance. We assayed the expression or activity of four scavenging enzymes during non-host pathogen-plant interaction (Xanthomonas hortorum pv. pelargonii/mung bean) and host pathogen-plant inte...
